New Era Japan has released a five-piece capsule collection of headwear featuring DC Comics' Batman and the horror film franchises A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. The lineup spans four of the brand's cap silhouettes, from structured fitted models to softer, retro-inspired five-panel designs.

According to the brand, the properties are matched to cap styles that suit their attitude. Batman appears on three different builds, while each horror franchise gets a dedicated design. The collection is available now through New Era Japan's online store.

Cap Styles and Construction

The collection use four distinct New Era silhouettes, each with specific construction details. The caps are made from cotton or cotton-polyester blends.

Design Details by Property

Batman receives the most variety within the collection. The black 59FIFTY A-Frame features a pinched crown for a peaked, A-shaped profile. A proprietary stiffener behind the front panel maintains the shape. Like all 59FIFTY models, it uses fitted sizing in approximate one-centimeter increments with no adjuster strap.

For an adjustable fit, the Batman 9FORTY A-Frame is made from washed black cotton. It also has a pinched crown with a shape-retaining stiffener and is designed to sit slightly deeper on the head than a standard 9FORTY cap. Its visor comes pre-curved. The final Batman option is the black PC 19TWENTY, a five-panel cap with a retro baseball silhouette and a rear adjustment strap.

The horror-themed caps offer distinct profiles. A Nightmare on Elm Street is featured on a classic olive 59FIFTY fitted cap, the only non-black color in the collection. New Era notes that the absence of an adjuster on this model creates a cleaner back and allows the crown to follow the head's shape more closely. Friday the 13th appears on a black all-cotton PC 19TWENTY, which the brand describes as the lineup's most relaxed and vintage-leaning design.

Seasonal Release Strategy

The capsule collection pairs iconic characters from different eras. Batman debuted in DC comics in 1939, while A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th launched major slasher franchises in the 1980s, introducing Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees. The release in late September aligns with the seasonal peak in demand for horror-themed merchandise leading up to Halloween.
