Buffer Collaborates with Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Buffer, led by Tetsu Nishiyama, launches a capsule collection with the 1982 film Fast Times at Ridgemont High on September 5.

Buffer, the label helmed by creative director Tetsu Nishiyama and operated by HUMAN MADE, is releasing a collaboration with the 1982 American teen movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High. According to Hypebeast, the graphics-led capsule collection will be available starting September 5 at Buffer Store and the brand's official online shop.
The collection is compact, focusing on three distinct T-shirt designs that interpret the film through Buffer's graphic lens. This approach treats the movie as raw material for reinterpretation rather than straightforward licensing. The release is rounded out by a selection of Buffer's own original pieces.
Three Graphic Approaches
The collaborative effort centers on three T-shirt styles, each filtering the source material differently. Illustrator Naoki Shoji created one design, building his piece around the movie as a central motif. A second shirt prints a series of the film's memorable scenes directly onto the garment, relying on recognizable imagery. The third design distills the movie to a single, emblematic line, transforming the rule "NO SHIRTS, NO SHOES, NO DICE" into a standalone graphic.
This three-way split demonstrates a deliberate technical intent. The label moves from illustration to photographic scene print to a text-driven graphic across the set. It is a small collection built to cover distinct graphic registers instead of repeating one idea in multiple colors.
Cultural Anchoring and Brand Pattern
The film crossover fits a longer pattern for Buffer. The label has established a throughline of movie-referencing capsules. Pairing with a 1982 teen comedy slots neatly into its graphic language, which is rooted in American pop-culture nostalgia. Fast Times at Ridgemont High carries a specific early-80s Americana that maps onto Nishiyama's reported interest in vintage US reference points. This gives the T-shirts a cultural anchor beyond the artwork itself.
Buffer Originals in the Drop
Alongside the collaboration, Buffer is including its own original pieces in the same release. These items extend the drop past the film tie-in and into the brand's core graphic identity. The originals include a T-shirt drawing on 1990s street culture and a long-sleeve T-shirt that reconstructs Buffer's main logo.
The Buffer x Fast Times at Ridgemont High collection releases on September 5.
