NÒMARHYTHM TEXTILE and Jordan Brand have officially launched a collaborative apparel collection. In an exclusive interview with Hypebeast, co-founders Masako Noguchi and Takuma Sasaki discussed bringing their 20-year legacy of Tokyo textile design to a global audience.

The project draws deep inspiration from Japan's national reverence for baseball, not basketball. It builds on a domestic activation with the Tokyo Giants from earlier this summer, similar to how a team's fixtures build momentum. The partnership centers on the story of a fictional athletic team named "RHYTHM." The apparel avoids standard athletic mesh, using dark, wash-treated woven fabrics across structured baseball shirts and utility trousers designed to age naturally.

The Collection's Narrative and Craft

During the initial meeting with the Jordan team, the concept of a uniform for the fictional "RHYTHM" team emerged. Masako Noguchi told Hypebeast this idea instantly clarified the collection's story, much like a clear stats page clarifies a player's performance. The undisputed centerpiece is the "RHYTHM" team bomber jacket. It features embroidered floral motifs, graphic appliqués, and a detailed printed lining.

The collection also highlights NÒMARHYTHM TEXTILE's signature "Draw Your Garden" motif. This hand-drawn floral pattern is fused directly with Jordan Brand's red Jumpman logo on a lightweight bandana. Noguchi explained this print has become a defining part of their brand over two decades. Including it was an idea they had from the very beginning.

A Deliberate Palette and Process

The collection utilizes a restrained black palette, accented only by the iconic red Jumpman. Takuma Sasaki said black was chosen for its strong association with Jordan. Wash treatments were applied to bring out texture and make the garments feel immediately comfortable.

Sasaki emphasized a focus on detail. "We wanted to bring multiple techniques and details together within a single garment, while still allowing each element to be felt and seen," he told Hypebeast. The goal was to create pieces people would genuinely want to wear on the street, bridging sports and fashion.

Partnership and Future Outlook

The Jordan team had been visiting NÒMARHYTHM TEXTILE's collections in Tokyo and Paris prior to the project. Sasaki said this allowed for meaningful conversations and a deeper understanding. He expressed gratitude for the trust placed in them and the thorough testing process.

To better understand Jordan Brand, the founders visited its campus and explored historical archives. Noguchi said what resonated most was the brand's open-mindedness and willingness to embrace challenges. She described this spirit as something they aspire to carry forward. The collaboration aims to preserve intricate craftsmanship while executing at a global scale.

The energy from the Tokyo Giants activation was memorable. Sasaki recalled the stadium was packed with fans when players wore the collection, creating an atmosphere as electric as a crucial game in the standings. It was a very special experience. The story now expands onto a more global stage, carrying over from one project to the next.
