Bodycare has launched a new Studio Store format, aiming to open 15 locations by the end of 2026 and over 150 across the UK in the next five years. The cosmetics retailer, saved from administration in October 2025 by an investment group led by former The Body Shop CEO Charles Denton, has already opened two stores in Derby and Sheffield.

A community-centric approach

The new Bodycare Studio format is designed to foster product discovery and repeat visits. Stores feature demonstration zones, live broadcast studios, and creator spaces as part of a digital-first strategy. The retailer has expanded its offerings to include K-beauty, fine fragrance, and professional piercing studios, moving beyond its traditional value beauty model.

Bodycare managing director David Stern describes the new stores as "community stores," aiming to rebuild the bond between customers and retail. "Retail is supposed to be fun," Stern says, emphasizing the importance of customer engagement and discovery.

Content creation and influencer focus

The new stores place a strong emphasis on content creation, with a "Live @ Bodycare" concept offering free creator spaces equipped for social media filming. Stern explains that this approach reimagines community for 2026, providing local influencers and content creators with access to professional filming equipment.

Bodycare CMO Tash Courtenay-Smith highlights the brand's commitment to one-to-one communication with customers. "Bodycare really is in one-to-one comms with its community," she says, noting the personalized treatment shoppers receive both in-store and on social media.

The brand is also launching a Bodycare Academy this autumn to support and train creators at all levels, from beginners to established influencers. The academy will offer training in live presenting and best practices for content creation.

AI-driven retail experience

Bodycare's Studio Store format heavily incorporates AI to optimize store layouts, product assortments, and pricing. Stern explains that the company uses AI to digitize stores and enhance the customer experience, rather than solely for cost-saving measures.

"Data and technology is in everything we do," Stern says, emphasizing the importance of using AI to serve customers better. The company's recent investment round, led by Arāya Ventures, aims to accelerate its high street return and develop an AI-powered retail model.

Despite the new format, Bodycare continues to offer value, with Stern noting that the brand sells high-end products like Fenty at significantly lower prices. The Derby store, for example, carries brands such as Bondi Sands, Yes Studio, and Monday Haircare.

Bodycare plans to open stores in underserved communities, including Leicester, Bradford, Cumberland Wales, Telford, Sunderland, Burring, and Blackbird. Stern believes these locations will benefit from the brand's value-oriented social experiences.
